Construction
fire tank

Depending on the static-strength calculations, we use perimeter wind reinforcement system ties.

Access to the roof of the tank is provided by a steel system ladder, along with rests, platforms. On the roof there is a hatch allowing to see inside the tank. The tank is fixed with anchors to the foundation plate, which is also the bottom of the tank.

Detailed information:

The tank structure consists of hot-dip galvanized steel elements. The cylindrical shell is made of bolted single steel panels (sheets) of standardized dimensions. The thickness of the metal sheets used depends on the size of the tank and the standard of its manufacture and is selected at the level of strength-static calculations made. Sheets are made of S350GD steel, double-sided galvanized with a zinc coating thickness of Z275, Z350 or Z600. Sheathing panels are properly bored and horizontal and vertical joints are bolted. The selection of the zinc coating is based on calculations of the design life of the tank structure, based on the corrosivity class of the environment in which it is to be seated. In the upper and lower parts, the tank is topped with a perimeter angle bracket.

The roof is made as a self-supporting structure, based on Z type steel beams with a slope towards the center of the tank. The roof covering is available in two variants: uninsulated from T35 trapezoidal sheet metal or insulated from roof sandwich panels with a core of mineral wool or PIR. The roof panels allow for simple and quick installation to the structure with suitable through fasteners. Appropriately designed and profiled tongue-and-groove locks, ensure very good tightness and fast installation. The roof structure provides free drainage of rainwater outside the tank.

Corrosion protection -

All steel components, including bolts, used in the construction of the tank have been protected through a hot-dip galvanizing process. This is one of the best methods of protecting steel from weathering, and such a solution guarantees its long-term protection.

The advantages of such corrosion protection include:

  • The speed of the coating, which protects the outer and inner surfaces of the product, edges, recesses and corners,
  • Dual corrosion protection - barrier and electrochemical,
  • Protecting the steel surface from mechanical damage by varying the hardness of the zinc coating,
  • inseparable alloying of the zinc coating with steel, the possibility of combining with paint coatings in the so-called duplex system, which is an additional degree of protection for the tank that increases its life.

Tank shell panels can be powder coated in any color from the RAL package

The selected membrane tank technology excludes direct contact between the tank walls and the stored medium, which significantly extends the life of the shell.

Sealing
tank

Our tanks are sealed with a prefabricated Varnamo EPDM Elastoseal H ® synthetic membrane that fits the dimensions of the tank, with a design life of 30 years and a projected life of 50 years!

The membrane installed in the tanks is a product of the highest quality. It maintains the required parameters, which pays off with a very high efficiency during the tank leakage test and a long life of waterproofing.

  • EPDM is a synthetic rubber (rubber) belonging to the group of elastomers. It is a homogeneous, chemically stable material that does not contain plasticizers - substances that cause elasticity, for example, PVC film membranes, which migrate, leach and evaporate over time, adversely changing the properties of these materials, causing them to stiffen, which can lead to leaks.
  • The flexibility of EPDM membranes, which is very important in tank insulation, is due solely to their specific molecular structure. Thanks to it, we do not observe stiffening of the EPDM membrane over the years.
  • EPDM is a chemically dead material, that is, after vulcanization, no chemical processes take place in it that change its properties.
  • No components escape from it into the environment, this is confirmed by the certificate of neutrality for the water environment and PZH approval for use in drinking water tanks.
  • The EPDM membrane is thermostable and retains its flexibility and strength over a wide temperature range, i.e. from - 40ºC to + 120ºC, among other things, so it is possible and safe to install the membrane even at very low temperatures.
  • Thanks to its chemical homogeneity, the EPDM membrane is much more resistant to atmospheric aging (EPDM is resistant to ozone, UV radiation, most aggressive chemicals and microorganisms, among other things) than other commonly used waterproofing materials.
  • EPDM has so-called shape memory - the material returns to its original shape and dimension after stretching up to 300%.

The EPDM membrane is prepared under production conditions. Prefabrication in advance allows constant control over the parameters of the material and the welding of the elements. Maintaining proper prefabrication parameters affects the quality of the final product. The membrane undergoes detailed quality control before packaging and arrives at the construction site as a ready-to-install component. The pre-prepared membrane significantly reduces the assembly time of the tank, allows installation even during severe frosts, increases the effectiveness of leakage tests eliminating all the problems that can occur during the execution of the membrane at the construction site as is the case with PVC membranes.

Thermal insulation

Insulation of tank walls

We offer two variants of tank shell insulation: internal and external.

For interior insulation, JRtech uses XPS boards, so-called styrodur, usually with a thickness of min. 40 mm. The use of styrodur is supported by its unique properties, which include:

- exceptional hardness and pressure resistance - styrodur is characterized by a low degree of deflection, even with prolonged exposure to a high column of water;
- Overlap connection thanks to profiled edges;
- Very good hygroscopic conditions - low degree of absorption;
- Very good insulation properties;
- fire-retardant - class E according to EN 13501-1:2019-02; and C depending on the requirements of the selected design standard;
- No harmful dust during its mechanical processing;
- high limit application temperature.

XPS is the undisputed leader among polystyrene insulations. It effectively insulates and protects the EPDM membrane from contact with the steel walls of the tank.

The second option is to make external insulation of mineral wool, with the thermal parameters required by the customer and clad on the outside with trapezoidal sheet metal in commercially available RAL colors.

Roof insulation is made of sandwich panels. Sandwich roof panels with a core of mineral wool or PIR. Roof panels allow simple and fast installation to the structure with appropriate through fasteners. The external facings of the panels made of steel sheets with thicknesses from 0.5 mm are covered with metallic and organic coatings.

Insulation of the tank is extremely important for well-powered electric heaters to prevent freezing of the water table. The tank loses the most heat through the water surface (roof). Making a well-insulated tank allows to reduce these losses, which gives the possibility of using heaters with lower power, which affect the cost of operating the tank during the period of low outdoor temperatures.

ELEVATION AND COLOR OF THE TANK

To meet the expectations of the customer, we give the opportunity to choose the color of the tank.

The choice of facade color allows you to match it with the architecture of the building. As standard, the tank is in the color of galvanized elements. At the request of the customer, the panels of the tank shell, can be powder painted in any color from the RAL package.

In order to completely cover the tank shell, we can also make an exterior facade. It will be made of trapezoidal sheet metal with a vertical profile in commercially available colors.

Serving our experience, we are also willing to take on challenges in the field of aesthetics. Being open to all proposals, we will help to make, for example, corporate advertising, which, with such large areas of tanks, can reduce the cost of expensive advertising banners and additional structures for their installation.

Scope of work

JRtech is actively involved in the process of design arrangements for the inclusion of the tank in the planned fire protection system, both in terms of sanitary, electrical and instrumentation. We offer preparation of a complete construction project, detailed design and workshop documentation. We assist in obtaining a construction permit acting comprehensively.

JRtech's basic scope of supply includes the delivery with unloading of: the tank shell structure; the tank roof structure with its covering; the EPDM sealing membrane; thermal insulation; the tank's heating monitoring system; ladders, the roof inspection hatch; a set of process lines with the necessary fittings.

Installation of the tank is carried out using external hydraulic jacks. It consists in sequential lifting of the tank structure with simultaneous installation of internal insulation and EPMD membrane. Once the tank structure is completed, we proceed to the installation of the remaining equipment, i.e. process piping, water fittings, heaters and electrical switchgear with wiring.

After the installation is completed, the tank is ready to be filled and leakage test conducted. According to the standard, the duration of the leakage test for tanks with non-absorbent walls is 24 hours.

After filling the tank, we calibrate and check the correctness of the water level readings, the correctness of the operation of the heaters and communication with the overriding fire protection system. We take electrical measurements.

After the installation of the tank, we perform training on its operation. We teach the administrators of the facility how to make basic checks, e.g. daily, weekly, monthly. How to respond to operating emergencies and what periodic services to subject the device to.

Upon completion of construction, JRtech will execute and deliver as-built documentation with the necessary approvals and declarations.

Along with the completed construction and conducted acceptance, we provide a warranty card for the product and its operation. The warranty indicates the activities that should be performed to properly protect the tank and maintain an effective warranty.

Tank equipment

Each tank is equipped with a set of technological lines required by the project. Their arrangement, size are related to the applied performance standard and the conditions of connection min. pipelines of fire pumping stations.

At the level of execution of the detailed design, we assist in the selection of the optimal solution, taking into account field conditions, production and installation costs, or subsequent operation.

The tank is founded on a flat foundation slab made according to our guidelines. We can make it for you!
